U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, recently used her social media platform to address concerns about rising consumer prices and political issues related to the Trump administration.
On February 7, 2026, Jayapal commented on the cost of living, stating, “The price of everything from chicken wings to veggie platters has skyrocketed in the Trump economy. That means that thanks to Trump and Republicans, your Super Bowl party is going to cost much more.”
Later that day, she highlighted market competition issues by sharing a testimony: “When access to distribution is fair, consumers see lower everyday prices, communities retain local food access, and small producers gain a foothold in the market.” She encouraged followers to listen to Emily Chase’s account regarding grocery market concentration.
In an evening post on February 7, Jayapal reflected on civic engagement at her recent event: “ICYMI: Hundreds of people showed up to make their voices heard at my first town hall of 2026. Together, we will continue to demand an end to Trump’s lawlessness and to stand up for our communities and democracy.”
Jayapal has been active in U.S. politics for several years. Before joining Congress in 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 through 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965 and now residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
