Rep. Pramila Jayapal, U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, addressed the aftermath of the January 6th Capitol attack and local Seattle politics in a series of posts on her social media account.
On January 6, 2026, Jayapal stated, “Trump still has yet to be held accountable for the Jan 6th insurrection. My lawsuit with other members, Lee v. Trump, is our last chance in the courts to do so.
He wants to rewrite history. We won’t let him.” She referred to ongoing legal efforts aimed at holding former President Donald Trump responsible for his actions related to the events of January 6, noting her participation as a plaintiff in Lee v. Trump.
Later that day, Jayapal commented on statements made by Trump about the events of January 6: “Donald Trump says January 6th was a ‘day of love’ where there was ‘nothing done wrong.’
In reality, it was the most violent and deadly attack on our Capitol in over 200 years — an insurrection that drove his supporters to carry out.”
On January 7, she shifted focus to local matters in Seattle by congratulating new and returning city officials: “Congratulations to newly-sworn-in Seattle City Attorney Erika Evans and City Councilmember Dionne Foster, and returning City Councilmember Alexis Mercedes Rinck!
I look forward to partnering with each of you to make our beautiful city a better place to live! Let’s get to work!”
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since succeeding Jim McDermott in Congress in 2017. Before serving in Congress, she was a member of the Washington State Senate from 2014 through 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in India in 1965, Jayapal currently resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
