U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, addressed a range of policy issues and concerns in a series of social media posts on September 21 and 22, 2025.
On September 21, Jayapal called for accountability regarding the deaths of U.S. citizens abroad. She wrote, “U.S. citizens abroad deserve to be safe, and when they are killed, we must demand answers and accountability.
For AyĹźenur, for Rachel, for Sayfollah, for Tawfic, for Mohammed — we will keep demanding justice for those killed in Israel while peacefully protesting.”
Later that day, she highlighted her support for public health initiatives in her home state. In a post dated September 21 at 22:23 UTC, Jayapal stated: “I’m proud to live in and represent a state that’s standing up for public health and access to vaccines.
Our message is clear — we will not stand by while this administration undermines public health guidance and endangers the lives of our communities.”
In another post published just before midnight on September 22, Jayapal criticized actions taken by federal immigration authorities under former President Trump’s administration. She said: “Trump’s ICE has arrested the father of three active-duty U.S. Marines and the daughter of a Navy veteran.
@jgoldbeck of @VetVoiceFound explains how these cruel and indiscriminate actions hurt our veterans and service members.”
Jayapal’s advocacy reflects her background as a long-serving representative from Washington’s 7th District since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in India in 1965, Jayapal resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and Northwestern University.
