U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, recently addressed several pressing issues through a series of posts on her social media account.

On August 26, 2025, Jayapal highlighted concerns from local business owners regarding federal policies under former President Trump. She stated, “I’ve been hearing from business owners across our district about how Trump’s tariffs, trade wars, and immigration actions are affecting them. Listen to Joe Fugere, owner of Tutta Bella Pizzeria, discuss these challenges.”

Later that day, she commented on recent events in the Middle East: “The Israeli military bombed a Gaza hospital TWICE, killing 5 journalists and at least 15 others. They continue to violate both U.S. and international law. We must end our complicity in this massacre and stop providing the weapons that fuel this genocide.” This post reflects ongoing debates in Congress over U.S. foreign policy and arms sales.

On August 27, Jayapal addressed actions taken against Kilmar Abrego Garcia by the Trump administration: “Good. The Trump administration’s unrelenting, illegal, and outrageous campaign against Kilmar Abrego Garcia must stop. They were wrong when they sent him to CECOT, and they are wrong now.”

Jayapal has served as the representative for Washington’s 7th District since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, she holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
