Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, used her social media platform on March 17, 2026, to comment on national spending priorities, vaccine policy rulings, and recognition for law enforcement officers.
In a post made at 18:28 UTC, Jayapal criticized federal expenditures related to recent military actions. She stated, “The first week of Trump’s war with Iran cost over $11 BILLION. And there’s reporting that he plans to request another $50B in funding. That amount of money, invested in our communities, could end homelessness or cover daily nutrition benefits for every American on SNAP.”
Later that evening at 20:04 UTC, Jayapal responded to a court decision involving public health policy and vaccine requirements associated with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s administration. She wrote, “This is an important ruling that recognizes the immense harm of RFK Jr.’s vaccine policies. We must keep fighting back against this anti-science administration to protect the health of our kids, seniors, and communities.”
At 21:42 UTC on the same day, Jayapal acknowledged law enforcement officers who defended the Capitol during a critical moment in U.S. democracy. She said, “After far too long, a plaque honoring the law enforcement officers who risked their lives to defend our Capitol is finally on display. It is thanks to these brave officers that we were able to certify the election and protect our democracy. I am incredibly grateful to each of”.
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since succeeding Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and now residing in Seattle at age 57, she holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
