Pramila Jayapal, U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017 and a former member of the Washington State Senate, used her social media platform on June 1, 2026, to address several political issues and express support for the LGBTQIA+ community and naturalized citizens.

In her first post marking Pride Month, Jayapal wrote on June 1, 2026: “Happy Pride Month

To the LGBTQIA+ community, even as Trump and Republicans promote hate, know that: I see you, I hear you, I love you, and I will NEVER stop fighting for you.”

Later the same day, she addressed recent criticisms targeting naturalized citizens by Republican politicians. On June 1, 2026, she posted, “The attacks on naturalized citizens by Republicans trying to boost their political careers should not be normalized.

Naturalized citizens know how meaningful it is to be an American. Republicans can never take that away.”

That evening, Jayapal commented on a reported decision by Donald Trump regarding financial support for his allies. She stated on June 1, 2026, “Trump plans to DROP the $1.8 billion slush fund to reward MAGA insurrectionists and cronies who committed violence on his behalf.

This blatant corruption is so unpopular, even Trump can no longer defend it. Public pressure works.”

Jayapal was born in Chennai in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. She graduated from Georgetown University in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and later from Northwestern University in 1990. Since replacing Jim McDermott in Congress in 2017 after previously serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016, Jayapal has been an active voice on issues affecting marginalized communities.
