U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, recently posted a series of statements on her official social media account addressing issues ranging from energy costs to federal assistance programs and constituent services.
On November 30, 2025, Jayapal criticized former President Donald Trump’s campaign promises regarding energy prices. She wrote, “Trump promised to lower costs on day one — even saying that electricity prices would be ‘cut in half’ within 12 months. He lied. Electricity costs have skyrocketed in nearly every state, including right here in WA.”
Later the same day, Jayapal commented on changes to U.S. foreign aid under the current administration: “This administration is cutting foreign assistance programs left and right, including ones that promote inter-faith and cross-cultural dialogue — something they’ve claimed to care about.”
On December 1, 2025, she highlighted her office’s efforts to support local organizations: “My office’s constituent services team was able to help NW Justice Project get money they were owed, which means they’ll be able to continue their work helping people get legal aid across WA! Reach out to our office if you need help with a federal agency — we are here to help!”
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th district since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
