U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of messages on her social media account addressing public safety during severe weather, immigration policy debates, and allegations of mistreatment at detention facilities.
On December 15, 2025, Jayapal advised residents to take precautions amid ongoing severe weather: “WA: As we continue to face this ongoing atmospheric river, make sure to keep your devices and vehicles charged, make an emergency kit, and stay up to date with local resources. The following day, December 16, she criticized Republican lawmakers for their response to the death of Kayla Hamilton: “Republicans are weaponizing Kayla Hamilton’s tragic death to push through more cruel immigration policies that will further traumatize families. This bill does nothing to prevent child trafficking. It just promotes family separation. https://t.co/jpsgT0UQsv”.
Later on December 16, Jayapal described a contentious exchange in the Rules Committee regarding medical procedures performed without consent at a detention facility: “I shared the story of a detention facility that performed medical procedures on women without their consent in the Rules Committee. My GOP colleague called me a liar. It’s a disturbing truth, but true nonetheless — I won’t stop working to expose these horrors. https://t.co/94jn1sq5rX”.
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Her educational background includes degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
