U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, recently posted a series of statements on social media covering topics from community engagement to federal court decisions and tributes to political colleagues.
On November 6, 2025, Jayapal shared her appreciation for the South Asian Public Health Association’s event, writing: “So great to sit down with @asmamk last night at @SAPHAinfo’s inaugural gala dinner. Thank you to the South Asian Public Health community for having me, for talking politics and policy, and for staying engaged!”
Later that evening, she commented on a recent judicial decision regarding federal food assistance programs: ” BREAKING: A federal judge just ordered Trump to pay full SNAP benefits to 42 million Americans who rely on this assistance by tomorrow. Trump needs to listen to the courts, follow the law, and stop hurting working people.” The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a federal aid program providing food-purchasing assistance for low- and no-income individuals.
Jayapal also paid tribute to former Speaker Nancy Pelosi on November 6: “Speaker Emerita Pelosi has been the most effective Speaker in a generation—delivering time & again for the American people & showing true, principled leadership. It has been my honor to serve with her & I thank her for her work to make America a more just & fair place for us all.”
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. Before serving in Congress, she was a member of the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
