Rep. Pramila Jayapal, U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, addressed a range of topics in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) between December 12 and 13, 2025.
On December 12, Jayapal expressed concern about the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, stating: “Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act prohibits the targeting of U.S. persons — yet millions of Americans have had their privacy violated under this statute. We need to do more to protect ALL individuals in the United States from warrantless government spying.”
Later that day, she congratulated Rhonda Lewis for her historic appointment to local government: “Congratulations to Rhonda Lewis, the newest member of the King County Council! Lewis is the first Black woman to serve on the council, and women now hold a majority of seats on the Council for the first time in history!”
On December 13, Jayapal referenced her work as a Democratic leader in immigration oversight: “As the top Democrat on the House Immigration Subcommittee, if Republicans refuse to conduct oversight of Trump’s illegal immigration actions, I will. I’ve held shadow hearings both in DC and across America, hearing horrifying stories from dozens of people — and I won’t stop.”
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since succeeding Jim McDermott in Congress and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and now residing in Seattle, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
