Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, has recently addressed several key political issues through her social media posts.
On April 10, 2026, Jayapal highlighted concerns regarding government surveillance powers, stating: “Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act is a powerful tool the government uses to surveil Americans without a warrant — and it has a troubling history of misuse. Check out my op-ed on why Congress must not reauthorize it without real reforms and protections.”
Later that day, she reflected on her engagement with constituents: “Last night, I hosted my 130th town hall since coming to Congress. So many people showed up to ask questions and share their concerns about Trump’s authoritarian attacks. It is so important that we come together in community during this current moment and chart a path forward.” This statement references ongoing public discourse surrounding former President Donald Trump.
On April 11, 2026, Jayapal commented on the California governor’s race by calling for Rep. Eric Swalwell to exit the contest: “Rep. Swalwell should immediately withdraw from the governor’s race and there must be a quick and thorough investigation.”
Jayapal was born in Chennai in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Before her election to Congress in 2017—succeeding Jim McDermott—she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA, 1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
