Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on February 17, 2026, addressing concerns about the treatment of survivors and transparency in high-profile abuse cases.
In her first tweet at 20:29 UTC, Jayapal stated, “This is as sultans, ambassadors, prime ministers, and high-ranking people in business are joking about abusing and torturing young women. Rather than holding perpetrators accountable, the DOJ is intimidating the survivors and those who are working to elevate their voices.”
Minutes later, she added at 20:29 UTC, “It’s disgraceful that instead of focusing on real transparency and justice for the survivors, right-wing personalities are trying blur the lines in the same way.”
Later that day at 20:45 UTC, Jayapal shared greetings for a cultural celebration: “Happy Lunar New Year to all who celebrate! As we enter the Year of the Horse, I wish everyone a year full of good health, joy, and peace.”
Pramila Jayapal has served in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. Before joining Congress, she was a member of the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
