U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, posted a series of statements on September 3, 2025, addressing issues related to corporate influence in politics, congressional censure attempts, and stock trading by lawmakers.

In her first post of the day, Jayapal commented on changes in bipartisan efforts to regulate large technology companies. She wrote: “Reining in Big Tech monopolies and corporate consolidation used to be a bipartisan issue. But now, because all of these billionaire CEOs are donating endless money to Trump, Republicans have flipped. It’s a betrayal of small businesses and the American people.” (September 3, 2025).

Later that afternoon, Jayapal criticized an unsuccessful Republican-led effort to censure another member of Congress. She stated: “Republicans just FAILED in their attempt to censure my colleague @RepLaMonica — simply for doing her job and conducting oversight of an ICE facility. What a ridiculous waste of time that Congress should be using to work for the American people.” (September 3, 2025).

In her final tweet of the evening, Jayapal advocated for increased transparency regarding lawmakers’ financial interests and promoted legislation she is co-leading. She wrote: “The American people deserve to know that members of Congress are working for them, not for our own pocketbooks. It’s far past time to ban Congressional stock trading. I’m proud to be co-leading the bipartisan Restore Trust in Congress Act to do just that.” (September 3, 2025).

Jayapal has served as U.S. Representative since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 through 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
