Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, shared updates on her recent activities and policy positions through a series of posts on March 10, 2026.
In her first post, Jayapal reflected on her engagement with constituents: “Last night, I hosted my 129th town hall since coming to Congress. Hundreds of people came out to ask thoughtful questions on everything from Trump’s illegal war in Iran to protecting our planet from climate change. If you weren’t able to make it, I hope to see you next time!” (March 10, 2026).
Addressing foreign policy concerns later that day, she wrote: “This is an illegal, unconstitutional war that is putting US servicemembers in harm’s way. Congress must step in and end this.” (March 10, 2026).
On domestic issues, Jayapal called for comprehensive health care reform: “In the richest country in the world, no one should have to worry about how they’ll be able to afford a trip to the doctor. It’s time for a health care system without copays, private insurance premiums, sky-high deductibles, or surprise fees. It’s time for Medicare for All.” (March 10, 2026).
Jayapal has been active in national politics since replacing Jim McDermott as representative of Washington’s 7th district in 2017 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and now residing in Seattle at age 57, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
