U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, recently addressed several policy issues through a series of posts on her social media account.
On February 16, 2026, Jayapal advocated for the passage of her proposed legislation with the statement: “My Trans Bill of Rights protects the freedom for all trans people to live as their full, authentic selves. It’s time to get this passed!”
Later that day, she criticized federal immigration enforcement activities in local communities. In a post dated February 16, 2026, Jayapal wrote: “Let me be clear — ICE has no place in our community. I’m glad to work with leaders like @ExecZahilay who are taking steps to ban these lawless federal agents from terrorizing our neighbors.”
In another post from February 16, 2026, Jayapal commented on U.S. trade policy and its economic impact: “Trump’s reckless tariffs are raising costs for families across the country — forcing people to pay a whopping $1,300 more on average for everything from tomatoes to t-shirts. These tariffs add up and they mean a paycheck doesn’t go as far as it should.”
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since 2017 after previously serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Her educational background includes degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
