U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, addressed several issues on her Twitter account on August 8, 2025, including the treatment of transgender servicemembers and the direction of the Democratic Party.

In a post made at 18:17 UTC, Jayapal criticized current policies affecting transgender individuals serving in the military. She wrote, “The inhumanity with which this administration treats our trans servicemembers is horrifying. They should be thanked and celebrated, not forcefully removed from service. The cruelty is the point.”

Later that day at 19:32 UTC, she called for significant changes within her own party. In her words: “A return to the status quo and incremental change is not an option. No more excuses. No more corruption. Democrats need to be the party of getting things done for the American people and unrigging the entire system that has been failing our country for decades.”

At 21:37 UTC, Jayapal announced a new podcast episode featuring travel writer Rick Steves. She posted: “NEW POD: I talked with my good friend and travel writer @RickSteves about what Americans can learn from traveling around the world, cuts to foreign assistance and public broadcasting, and more. Watch below or listen wherever you get your podcasts!”

Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th district since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965, she currently resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
