U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on September 19, 2025, addressing recent political developments and her positions on legislative actions.
In a post made at 13:58 UTC, Jayapal commented on the reported dismissal of a federal prosecutor by former President Donald Trump. She wrote, “BREAKING: Trump is firing a federal prosecutor because they would not make up evidence to charge the New York AG. This is what happens in a dictatorship. Donald Trump is an authoritarian.”
Later that day at 15:06 UTC, Jayapal responded to news regarding Charlie Kirk’s death and explained her vote on a House resolution related to the incident. She stated, “Charlie Kirk’s death is a tragedy, and I condemn all political violence from wherever it comes. House Republicans designed today’s resolution as a political “gotcha” — one that attempts to put words in my mouth to endorse Kirk’s views. I cannot do that, so I voted ‘no.'”
At 15:41 UTC on the same day, Jayapal addressed her opposition to recent budget legislation advanced by House Republicans. She said, “Today I voted NO on a Republican stop-gap funding bill that fails to address the millions of Americans who will lose their health care thanks to Trump’s Big Bad Betrayal.”
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
