U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, shared a series of statements on her official Twitter account addressing the Trump administration and recent legislative developments related to health care.
On January 9, 2026, Jayapal criticized former President Donald Trump and his administration, stating: “Trump and his administration are lying to the American people about things we can clearly see with our own eyes. And when we regain control of Congress, we will have hearings and investigations to hold every single one of these individuals accountable.”
Later that day, Jayapal promoted a new podcast episode focused on health care policy discussions: “NEW POD: I talked to @PNHP President, Dr. Diljeet Singh, about how physicians view our health care system, and to David Walker about polling that shows the people support M4A. Watch below or listen where you get your podcasts!” The discussion referenced polling data supporting Medicare for All (M4A) and included input from medical professionals.
In a third post on January 9, 2026, Jayapal highlighted bipartisan action in the House of Representatives: “Yesterday, 17 Republicans joined every Democrat on the House Floor to pass a three-year extension of Affordable Care Act tax credits. Now, the Senate must step up, pass our bill, and send the legislation to the President’s desk to save health care for millions of Americans.”
Jayapal has served in Congress since 2017 after replacing Jim McDermott as representative for Washington’s 7th district. Before her time in Congress, she was a member of the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and now residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
