U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, recently shared updates on legislative developments and national security concerns via her social media account.
On April 16, 2026, Jayapal highlighted congressional efforts to restrict arms sales to Israel. She stated: “Yesterday, 40 Democratic senators voted for @SenSanders legislation to block the sale of more weapons and equipment to Israel. While these measures ultimately did not pass, this is real progress — Americans do not want U.S. weapons to be used to kill innocent civilians.”
Later that day, she announced the passage of a bill extending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian nationals in the House of Representatives: “GOOD NEWS: @RepPressley & @RepLauraGillen’s bill to extend Temporary Protected Status for Haiti passed the House! This bill would protect the Haitian community from being forced to return to real and imminent harm. I’m proud to have led the floor debate for it today!” The measure aims to shield members of the Haitian community from deportation due to ongoing instability in Haiti.
In another post on April 16, Jayapal addressed privacy concerns related to government surveillance authorities under FISA Section 702 after reviewing a classified document provided by Senator Ron Wyden: “I just reviewed the classified document from @RonWyden about the abuses of FISA Section 702. I’m even more disturbed now about the secret interpretation of Section 702 that affects privacy rights. This information should be declassified before any reauthorization vote takes”
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since replacing Jim McDermott in Congress in 2017 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965, she currently resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
