Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, recently used her social media platform to announce new legislative efforts and voice criticism of former President Donald Trump.

On July 16, 2025, Jayapal stated, “ICE has absolutely zero business detaining or deporting U.S. citizens — yet time and time again, they continue to do exactly that. I just introduced a bill to stop them.”

Later that day, she highlighted her involvement with youth activists and colleagues on environmental legislation. On July 16, she posted: “Great to join @youthvgov and my colleagues today in introducing a resolution to protect the rights of kids everywhere to a safe, livable planet. As Trump tries to destroy our environment, inaction is not an option. We’ll keep fighting for climate justice and for the future.”

On July 17, Jayapal criticized former President Trump regarding his stance on Jeffrey Epstein-related files and other issues: “Trump’s flip-flop on the Epstein files is just another example of him saying one thing and then doing another. ICE raids, lowering inflation, ending wars, now this. He’s just lying, and the American people are getting sick of it.”

Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 after previously serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Jayapal graduated from Georgetown University with a BA in 1986 before earning an additional degree from Northwestern University in 1990.
