Representative Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, used her social media platform on December 2, 2025, to share views on artificial intelligence regulation and respond to political developments.
On her official account, Jayapal posted a brief message in response to an unspecified event or individual: “What a coward.” (December 2, 2025).
Later that day, she announced her involvement in new legislative efforts regarding artificial intelligence. In a tweet posted at 17:13 UTC, Jayapal stated: “That’s why today, I’m proud to stand with @SenMarkey, @RepYvetteClarke, @RepSummerLee, and @RepPressley to introduce the AI Civil Rights Act.” (December 2, 2025).
She followed this announcement by addressing concerns about the current state of AI industry oversight. In another post from the same time period, Jayapal wrote: “AI is a $244 billion industry that lacks the guardrails necessary to protect Americans from the bias and discrimination baked into algorithms.
And Congress is way behind on putting in place the needed regulations to ensure equal access to housing, jobs, and even bank loans.” (December 2, 2025).
Jayapal has been active in federal politics since succeeding Jim McDermott in Congress. She previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016 and holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, she continues to advocate for regulatory frameworks around emerging technologies as part of her legislative priorities.
