U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on November 8, 2025, regarding ongoing government shutdown negotiations and the importance of health care protections.
In her first post on November 8 at 17:45 UTC, Jayapal wrote, “Republicans cannot be trusted. Any deal to end this shutdown MUST include an extension of ACA tax credits that will stop health care costs from rising for millions of Americans next year. Not concepts of a plan. Not a promise. A law to save health care.”
Later that day at 21:47 UTC, she continued her comments by stating, “Democrats are holding the line to save your health care. It’s time for Republicans to negotiate a deal to open the government and protect health care for millions of Americans.” In another tweet posted at the same minute, Jayapal shared a link without additional commentary: “https://t.co/3CVGHSJO5v”.
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. She previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965, Jayapal currently resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits referenced by Jayapal are designed to make health insurance more affordable for millions of Americans each year by reducing premium costs based on income eligibility.
