Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, addressed recent events in Minneapolis through a series of posts on January 24, 2026. In her messages, she commented on the presence and actions of federal agents in Minnesota and called for legislative action regarding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

In her first post at 18:24 UTC, Jayapal offered support to residents affected by ongoing events in Minneapolis: “To those in Minneapolis, living through this assault on your city, state, and rights, there are resources available. Please make sure you know your rights and stay safe.”

Later that day at 19:45 UTC, she referenced a fatal incident involving federal agents: “Federal agents killed a man in Minnesota today. And DHS is already lying about it. It is time to get these masked, militarized agents off our streets — and Congress cannot give another dime to DHS.”

At 20:18 UTC the same evening, Jayapal commented more broadly on the political climate: “Today, we are once again witnessing horror on the streets of America. Republicans must wake up to the reality that Trump is trying to steal our democracy. We swore an oath, and it is time for them to stand up and protect our Constitution and the American people.”

Pramila Jayapal has served as a member of Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 after previously serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and Northwestern University.
