U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, used her social media platform to criticize recent events in Minnesota and the federal response, calling for accountability and an end to violence.
On January 24, 2026, Jayapal posted: “What is happening in Minnesota has to stop. Another person shot, another set of lies from DHS instead of a real investigation. Senate: DO NOT FUND ICE AND CBP. Trump and his cult party are stealing our democracy— right in front of our eyes—violating our rights and killing people”.
The following day, she addressed an incident involving Maxwell Frost: “I’m so grateful that @MaxwellFrost is ok, but this kind of violence is encouraged and inflamed by the violent and anti-immigrant, anti-Black rhetoric and action perpetrated by Trump and other Administration officials. This has to stop.” (January 25, 2026).
Later on January 25, Jayapal reiterated her call for independent oversight: “We all saw what happened today with our own eyes. Yet Trump’s administration continues to lie to our faces. We need an independent investigation and accountability NOW.”
Pramila Jayapal began serving in Congress after replacing Jim McDermott in 2017; prior to that she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA, 1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
