Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, has raised concerns on social media regarding issues ranging from the Jeffrey Epstein files to U.S. policy toward Syria.
On February 14, 2026, Jayapal posted: “So many of the rich and powerful abusers in the Epstein files thought they were above the law and that they would never be caught. We will continue standing up and fighting until there is full accountability and justice.”
The following day, she alleged improper conduct by the Department of Justice (DOJ), stating: “The DOJ is deliberately spying on members of Congress and trying to use our own oversight against us. Republicans and Democrats know that this is unacceptable. Instead of surveilling us, the DOJ needs to stop covering up the Epstein Files and protecting powerful predators.” The post was published on February 15, 2026.
Later that same day, Jayapal addressed international policy concerns about Syria: “Syria needs at least $200 billion to help aid their reconstruction, and 90% of the population is living in poverty. If the U.S. reimposes sanctions on Syria, it would be devastating to the people trying to rebuild their lives.”
Jayapal’s remarks come amid ongoing public debate about transparency in government investigations and U.S. foreign policy impacts. Jayapal replaced Jim McDermott as representative for Washington’s 7th district in 2017 after serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai in 1965, currently resides in Seattle, and holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
