U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing concerns about international human rights, immigration detention practices, and consumer protection.
On December 5, 2025, Jayapal announced a bipartisan effort with Rep. Greg Casar to urge Secretary Rubio to address issues involving Pakistan’s military. In her post she stated: “NEW: @RepCasar & I led 42 members in calling on @SecRubio to hold Pakistan’s military accountable as they face an escalating crisis of authoritarianism. As US citizens who speak out face intimidation, our govt must take concrete action to defend them.”
Later the same day, Jayapal criticized former President Donald Trump’s handling of immigration detention facilities. She wrote: “Trump is doing everything he can to hide his immigration detention abuses — lying to the public, sending people to third countries, and denying members of Congress access to detention facilities. But I promise you I will not give up in this fight for truth and justice.”
In another post dated December 6, 2025, Jayapal raised concerns about changes at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) under the Trump administration. She said: “The CFPB has returned billions to Americans scammed by corporations. But now the Trump administration is canceling lawsuits and taking money out of consumers’ pockets. The government should work for the people, not billionaire CEOs — and I’m demanding answers.”
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
