U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, has recently made several public statements via her social media account regarding legislative initiatives and foreign policy concerns.

On April 8, 2026, Jayapal announced the reintroduction of a tax proposal, stating: “ICYMI: I reintroduced the Ultra-Millionaire Tax Act. If billionaires paid their fair share, we could pay for community college for every American, expand health care access, and reinvest in the American people.”

Later that day, she addressed ongoing conflict in the Middle East and its repercussions. On April 8, 2026, Jayapal posted: “Thousands of Iranian and Lebanese civilians have been killed, millions more displaced. U.S. servicemembers’ lives are being put in danger. And Americans are paying the price at the gas pump. Congress must vote on a War Powers Resolution to end Trump’s illegal war now.”

Continuing this line of criticism on April 9, 2026, she added: “This illegal war must end. And Donald Trump needs to be removed from office.”

Pramila Jayapal has served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives since 2017 after replacing Jim McDermott and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA, 1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
