U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district, posted a series of statements on March 18, 2026, addressing the ongoing war in Iran and domestic health care policy.
In her first post at 17:57 UTC, Jayapal wrote: “The war in Iran has already killed 13 U.S. servicemembers, 168 Iranian children, and displaced millions of Iranians, wasted billions of taxpayer dollars, and put our democracy and global order at risk. This war is illegal and unconstitutional. It must end now.”
An hour later at 19:00 UTC, she added: “Regime change does not work. It never has, it never will. We must end Trump’s illegal war with Iran and work to ensure safety for U.S. servicemembers and Iranian civilians alike.”
On a different topic later that evening at 20:18 UTC, Jayapal commented on health care reform by stating: “Pope Leo and I agree: Health care is a moral imperative. It is a human right. We need Medicare for All.”
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since 2017 after previously serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She succeeded Jim McDermott as the district’s representative and currently resides in Seattle. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and Northwestern University.
