U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, has recently addressed several policy and community issues on her social media platform.
On March 28, 2026, Jayapal highlighted recent developments in her home state: “Once again, Washington State is leading the way as one of the first states to officially ban federal agents from wearing face masks. Now, we need to vote to put real guardrails — including no masks — in place for ICE and CBP on the federal level.” She called for federal legislation that would extend such regulations to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
A day later, on March 29, 2026, Jayapal drew attention to issues concerning unaccompanied minors in custody: “‘The average time in custody for unaccompanied children has skyrocketed, from around 37 days to nearly 200 days.’ Neha Desai from the National Center for Youth Law has seen firsthand how the Trump admin has ripped families apart and the harm it has caused.”

Jayapal has served as U.S. Representative since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017. Prior to her congressional role, she was a member of the Washington State Senate between 2014 and 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965, Jayapal now resides in Seattle. She holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and Northwestern University.
