U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, used her social media platform on August 13, 2025, to address issues related to homelessness and economic policy.

In a post at 14:22 UTC, Jayapal advocated for legislative action regarding homelessness. She stated, “People experiencing homelessness need support from the government, not persecution and jail time. Congress must pass my Housing Not Handcuffs Act with @RepMaxwellFrost to end the criminalization of unhoused people on federal land.”

Later that day at 16:33 UTC, Jayapal commented on proposed changes to federal economic reporting. She wrote, “Trump’s replacement for Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner, E.J. Antoni, wants to completely get rid of the monthly jobs report. This data guides American economic policy and markets around the world, but Trump wants to hide it because it makes him look bad. Embarrassing.”

At 19:13 UTC on the same day, Jayapal addressed recent labor market developments and their political implications. She posted, “NEW: Layoffs just hit their highest levels since the COVID pandemic. Trump is ruining the American economy, rigging it for billionaires and corporations while the rest of us are left to suffer.”

Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since 2017 after serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
