U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on January 8, 2026, regarding the shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis.
In her first post at 16:48 UTC, Jayapal stated: “The Trump administration and his FBI and ICE are already obstructing the investigation into this shooting and killing of an innocent U.S. citizen. There must be a full, honest independent investigation involving all relevant authorities.”
Later that day at 17:33 UTC, she addressed public reaction to the incident: “Millions of people across America are watching the videos of an ICE agent shooting and killing Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, and they know that Donald Trump and Kristi Noem are LYING. We can see what happened with our own eyes. We won’t believe their propaganda.”
At 18:22 UTC, Jayapal continued her criticism of federal immigration enforcement practices: “ICE is coming into our neighborhoods and killing people — that is what is happening right now in the United States. This is state violence. Trump’s ICE is going after Americans. There must be accountability.”
Pramila Jayapal has served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA, 1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
