U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district since 2017, voiced her support on August 13, 2025, for recent legislative efforts targeting rent price-fixing and the treatment of detained immigrants.

On August 13, Jayapal posted on X: “That’s why I support Seattle’s recent bill banning the use of the algorithms, and support legislation to ban these practices nationwide.” She further stated in another post on the same day: “Corporate landlords shouldn’t be using pricing algorithms to collude and raise your rent, period. This settlement prohibits the country’s largest landlord from doing this. But we must go further to stop price fixing that hurts millions of Americans.”

In a separate post later that day regarding immigration detention conditions under U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Jayapal wrote: “The conditions under which Trump’s ICE is holding immigrants are abhorrent, and I’m glad to see a judge stepping in & requiring some improvements. Congress must pass my Dignity for Detained Immigrants Act to end this inhumane treatment once and for all.”

Jayapal has held her seat in Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 after previously serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Her educational background includes degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
