Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, addressed several issues in recent social media posts, including Temporary Protected Status (TPS) recipients and transparency in investigations involving former President Donald Trump.
On December 17, 2025, Jayapal wrote: “TPS recipients are valuable members of our communities — many of them have been here for decades working, paying taxes, building families. Instead of stripping their legal status and forcing them back to warzones, as Trump is doing, we should be giving them a pathway to https://t.co/EbVLtNIvVY”.
The following day, she commented on the ongoing investigation into former President Trump by Special Counsel Jack Smith. On December 18, 2025, Jayapal stated: “The American people deserve to hear, directly from Jack Smith, what his investigation into Trump found. Instead of that transparency, today Republicans brought him in for a closed door deposition, all in an effort to cover up Trump’s attempt to overturn a free and fair election. https://t.co/SoHcGLmIAm”.
Later that same day she reiterated her stance: “Trump attempted to overturn a free and fair election and incited an insurrection. And the American people deserve to know what Jack Smith’s investigation found. Democrats will keep pushing for transparency even as Republicans try to cover it up. https://t.co/8aLSMXVyT7”.
Jayapal has been serving in Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 after previously holding office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
