U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on December 17, 2025, addressing recent controversies involving members of Congress and national policy issues.
In her first post at 18:24 UTC, Jayapal condemned comments made by Congressman Randy Fine about Muslim Americans. She wrote, “Congressman Randy Fine’s comments about Muslim Americans are vile, deeply racist, and have no place in Congress. Every single Republican should condemn these bigoted comments. I’m waiting.”
Shortly after, at 18:46 UTC, Jayapal criticized former President Donald Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson for allegedly attempting to prevent a vote on extending Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits. She stated, “Trump and Speaker Johnson are trying to block a vote to extend ACA tax credits. Democrats created a discharge petition and got 218 signatures — a majority of the House. Speaker Johnson needs to bring our bill to the floor NOW and save American families from a premium hike.”
Later that day at 19:20 UTC, Jayapal addressed reports of U.S. military actions near Venezuela under Trump’s direction. She posted, “Trump’s unlawful boat strikes and naval blockade around Venezuela are appalling violations of both U.S. and international law. The American people do not want another pointless forever war. I’m voting YES on a resolution to rein in Trump’s illegal actions.”
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017; prior to her tenure in Congress she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, she holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
