U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, addressed ongoing concerns about the federal worker furlough and rising costs for American families in a series of posts on October 31, 2025.
On her official account, Jayapal wrote: “This is ridiculous. Federal workers are furloughed or working without pay. It’s time for Speaker Johnson to end this month-long Republican vacation and get back to work.” (October 31, 2025)
Later that day, she commented on economic challenges faced by families during Halloween: “Want to know one of the spookiest things families are facing this Halloween? Inflation and skyrocketing costs. Trump promised to lower costs. He lied, and costs are going up for almost everything — from housing to health care to lollipops.” (October 31, 2025)
In a third post on the same date, Jayapal expressed appreciation for local support during the government shutdown: “Thank you to @CityofSeattle for joining our resource fair for federal workers. It is so important that our community comes together in this moment to rally around workers who did not ask for this and are waiting for their next paycheck.” (October 31, 2025)
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th district since 2017 after serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She succeeded Jim McDermott as the district’s representative and currently resides in Seattle. Born in Chennai in 1965, Jayapal earned her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and later completed further studies at Northwestern University.
