U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, has recently posted a series of statements on her official social media account regarding legislative developments and ongoing political issues.
On January 8, 2026, Jayapal addressed recent legislative action concerning healthcare tax credits. She stated, “Despite Speaker Johnson’s best efforts to block legislation to extend the ACA tax credits — Democratic leadership forced a vote and it passed! The Senate must immediately follow our lead to lower costs for millions of Americans who are seeing their premiums skyrocket.”
Later that evening, she commented on congressional moves related to U.S. foreign policy: “Good news: the Senate took the first step towards passing a war powers resolution to restrict Trump’s illegal actions in Venezuela. Speaker Johnson must bring this to the House for a vote immediately so Congress can reclaim our constitutional authority.” This statement references efforts by Congress to reassert its role in decisions about military engagement abroad.
In another post dated January 9, 2026, Jayapal referenced an incident involving Renee Nicole Good and called for accountability regarding immigration enforcement: “We all saw what happened to Renee Nicole Good with our own eyes. Yet Trump, JD Vance, and Kristi Noem continue to lie to the American people. There must be accountability for the killing of an American by ICE.”
Pramila Jayapal has served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives since 2017 after replacing Jim McDermott. Before her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, Jayapal is also an alumna of Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
