U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, issued a series of statements on May 29, 2026, addressing actions by the Trump administration and recent developments involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
In her first post of the day, Jayapal wrote, “NEW: A judge just temporarily BLOCKED the Trump administration from moving ahead with their $1.8 BILLION slush fund to pay insurrectionists and MAGA loyalists. I’ve said from the start that this is an absolute waste of taxpayer dollars. This needs to be stopped permanently.” (May 29, 2026).
Later, she criticized congressional Republicans for their handling of foreign policy decisions related to Iran, “Reminder: Republicans could have stopped Trump’s war with Iran a long time ago. They even cancelled last week’s vote on a War Powers Resolution because they were afraid it would pass. Spineless.” (May 29, 2026).
Addressing law enforcement accountability issues in her final tweet that day, Jayapal commented on an ICE agent’s arrest, “For too long, ICE has operated without consequences. But today’s arrest of an ICE agent who is accused of lying and shooting someone in Minneapolis is an important step toward justice. ICE will be held accountable — even if the Trump administration refuses to do so.” (May 29, 2026).
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 after serving previously in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
