U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district, used her social media platform on March 9, 2026, to address issues of civil rights and justice in a series of posts.
In her first post at 17:48 UTC, Jayapal highlighted the case of Patty O’Keefe, stating, “What happened to me was a flagrant violation of my Constitutional rights.” She continued, “Patty O’Keefe was violently detained for legally observing ICE activity in her neighborhood. She deserves accountability from the DHS.”
Later that day at 20:35 UTC, Jayapal reaffirmed her commitment to advocacy by posting, “This fight is about justice -– we’re not giving up.”
In a subsequent message at 21:50 UTC, she addressed inflammatory rhetoric circulating online or in public discourse. Jayapal wrote, “Disgusting is not a strong enough word to describe how absolutely vile this is. This rhetoric is un-American and has no place in this country.”
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. Before joining Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965 and now residing in Seattle, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
