U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on January 7, 2026, addressing the aftermath of the January 6 Capitol attack and recent actions by former President Donald Trump.
In her first post at 01:09 UTC, Jayapal wrote: “Trump and Republicans want to erase the events of January 6th — but we won’t let them. We won’t forget the violent attack on our Capitol. We won’t whitewash the attempt to overturn democracy. We won’t let their lies take hold.”
Later that morning at 03:29 UTC, she stated: “Trump’s pardoning of more than 1,500 January 6th rioters was the largest pardon of violent criminal offenders in our history. Trump himself hasn’t been held accountable either — I’m still fighting in the courts with other Members for justice.”
By early afternoon at 13:46 UTC, Jayapal shared her participation in a congressional hearing: “I participated in @HouseDemocrats’ January 6th hearing and testified to what I witnessed as insurrectionists stormed the Capitol and tried to overturn an election. Don’t listen to lies from Trump and Republicans — that day was an attack on our democracy & we can never forget it.”
Pramila Jayapal has served as a member of Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in India in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Jayapal is also an alumna of Georgetown University (BA, class of 1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
