Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on her social media account expressing concerns over recent policy decisions and political actions.

On August 6, 2025, Jayapal commented on a withdrawn policy, stating, “It’s good that this policy was withdrawn but I am absolutely horrified that it was even a possibility in the first place. Giving out bonuses to incentivize violating due process rights is beyond unethical – and hands down wrong.”

Later that day, she discussed her meeting with residents at Skyline Retirement Community: “It was wonderful to speak with residents of Skyline Retirement Community and answer questions about what the Big Bad Betrayal could mean for them. Our seniors deserve better than the cuts that Trump and Republicans are pushing.” This comment referenced proposed reductions to programs affecting senior citizens.

On August 7, 2025, Jayapal criticized former President Donald Trump by posting: “Donald Trump is using the presidency to get richer and richer while you struggle to get by. Corruption, plain and simple.”

Jayapal has served in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Her educational background includes degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
