U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing immigration policy, healthcare for DACA recipients, and labor rights.

On August 31, 2025, Jayapal criticized an attempted action by the administration regarding immigrant children: “Today is a win for due process, but this never should have happened. This admin’s attempt to remove hundreds of kids in the dead of night and circumvent the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act is shameful. The courts were right to step in.”

Later that day, she addressed changes affecting DACA recipients’ access to federal health insurance: “As of last week, DACA recipients no longer qualify for federal health insurance. I’m grateful to live in a state attempting to fill in the gaps left by this cruel decision, and we’ll keep fighting for access to care — regardless of immigration status.” This reflects ongoing debates over healthcare coverage and support for immigrants under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

On September 1, 2025, Jayapal recognized Labor Day with a message focused on worker advocacy: “Happy Labor Day! From fighting for livable wages to increasing worker protections, I will always stand up for working people in this country — today and every day.”

Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th district since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. Before her time in Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and now residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
