U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, posted a series of tweets on January 25, 2026, criticizing actions by federal immigration authorities and former President Donald Trump.
In a post at 18:20 UTC, Jayapal wrote: “A day after his DHS killed a man in the street, Trump is spending the day ranting about his ballroom. He does not care about the safety and well-being of the American people — just the status of his $400 million palace.”
Later that day at 19:21 UTC, she continued her criticism of federal agencies, stating: “ICE and DHS agents are the ones making our communities unsafe. They have killed two people in Minnesota in the first month of this year. How does that make any of us safer?”
At 20:04 UTC, Jayapal commented on citizenship policies under Trump’s administration: “Imagine waiting decades, passing countless background checks and interviews, and then just as you arrive at your citizenship ceremony, you get pulled out of line and told that all of that wasn’t enough. That’s what Trump is doing to people who just want to be Americans.”
Pramila Jayapal succeeded Jim McDermott as representative for Washington’s 7th district in 2017 after previously serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras), India in 1965, she resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
