U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, used her social media platform to criticize recent actions by federal immigration authorities and the Republican Party.
On February 4, 2026, Jayapal commented on reported plans by Tom Homan to reassign Department of Homeland Security agents from Minnesota: “Tom Homan has said that he will pull 700 DHS agents out of Minnesota — that still leaves 2,300 agents or a force FOUR TIMES the size of the local Minneapolis police force. ICE and CBP need to get out of our communities NOW.”
The following day, she posted another critique targeting Republican economic priorities: “Crumbs for working people, gold bars for billionaires — that’s the Republican Party’s priority.” This message continued her ongoing criticism of GOP policies regarding wealth distribution.
Later on February 5, Jayapal addressed congressional oversight and separation of powers: “Republicans have handed over Congress’s Article I powers to the White House. They don’t question him, they don’t hold him accountable. They don’t do anything to rein in the lawlessness of this administration. But Democrats will.”
Jayapal has served as a member of Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, she is also an alumna of Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
