Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, posted a series of statements on her Twitter account on February 3, 2026, addressing constitutional concerns, Department of Homeland Security funding, and bipartisan cooperation in the Judiciary Committee.
In her first post at 18:15 UTC, Jayapal commented on recent political developments involving former President Donald Trump. She wrote, “This is unconstitutional — it’s that simple. And it’s what Jack Smith warned us about. Without accountability for Jan 6th and his attempts to overturn the 2020 election, Trump will keep acting to subvert our elections.”
An hour later at 19:18 UTC, Jayapal criticized the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and called for changes in federal policy regarding immigration enforcement in American cities. She stated, “I will not be complicit in sending another dime to DHS as they continue their reign of terror. We must get these agents out of the Twin Cities and out of our communities across this country.”
At 20:30 UTC, Jayapal addressed her expectations for bipartisan efforts within the House Judiciary Committee. She posted, “The Judiciary Committee should be a space where we discuss how we can protect our Constitution and how we can protect the American people. These should be things we can work on in a bipartisan way. Republicans don’t want to do any of that.”
Jayapal has served as a U.S. Representative since succeeding Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
