U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, posted a series of statements on social media criticizing the actions of federal agencies including the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
On February 12, 2026, Jayapal wrote: “Everyone — regardless of political party — should be outraged by the dramatic overreach from Trump’s DOJ. They are spying on and surveilling Members of Congress as we conduct oversight.” She further commented later that day about the DOJ’s handling of cases involving Jeffrey Epstein survivors, stating: “The DOJ has compromised the privacy of Epstein survivors at every turn, all while protecting Donald Trump and all the other rich and powerful men involved in this abuse. Pam Bondi wouldn’t apologize to the survivors — she wouldn’t even look at them. It’s absolutely stunning.”
In a subsequent post on February 13, Jayapal addressed concerns regarding DHS operations: “DHS is operating with zero accountability, way too much funding, and a culture of lawlessness. As Ranking Member of the Immigration Subcommittee, I will continue working to push for accountability using every tool possible.”
Pramila Jayapal has been active in U.S. politics for over a decade. Before her election to Congress in 2017—succeeding Jim McDermott—she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
Her recent posts reflect ongoing concerns among some lawmakers regarding transparency and oversight within major federal agencies.
