U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, used her social media platform to criticize former President Donald Trump on several issues including foreign policy, climate change, and the January 6 Capitol attack.
On January 5, 2026, Jayapal posted: “Donald Trump can’t run America, but now he wants to go run Venezuela — all while the American people can’t afford health care or groceries. We don’t want another foreign war, we want lower costs for working families. But Trump is too busy with oil, oligarchs, greed, and power.”
Later that day, she addressed environmental concerns by stating: “2025 was one of the hottest years EVER. But instead of fighting the climate crisis, Trump is doubling down on fossil fuels to make Big Oil billionaires richer. That means hotter heat waves, worse natural disasters, & a less livable planet for us all.”
On January 6, 2026—five years after the events at the U.S. Capitol—Jayapal wrote: “Five years ago, Trump incited an insurrection to overturn the 2020 election. Trump and Republicans have tried to rewrite that day, but I still vividly remember it. We won’t let them whitewash or erase this deadly attack on our Capitol and our democracy.”
Pramila Jayapal has served in Congress since succeeding Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai in 1965 and resides in Seattle. Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
