Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, voiced concerns on social media regarding recent federal actions and legislative developments.
On November 4, 2025, Jayapal criticized presidential conduct in relation to a court order involving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funds. She wrote, “A President saying he will not obey the court order to release the SNAP funds he illegally withheld? This is dangerous. And it is the exact reason why we can’t trust anything they say.”
Later that day, she commented on Senate proceedings concerning Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies: “Let us be really clear: a failed vote on ACA subsidies in the Senate is just performative and why people lose faith in Dems. Our votes should never be free — we need to deliver a real win for working people.” This statement addressed her concerns about legislative effectiveness and party accountability.
In another post from November 4, Jayapal referenced former President Donald Trump and ongoing government funding issues: “Donald Trump is an agent of chaos and destruction — cutting SNAP, threatening paychecks, and using this Republican Shutdown to further his authoritarian power grabs. In our opposition, Democrats must put forward a vision that truly delivers for the American people.”
Jayapal has served as a member of Congress since 2017 after replacing Jim McDermott. Before her tenure in Congress, she was part of the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
