U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, has voiced concerns on social media regarding federal spending priorities, immigration enforcement policies under former President Donald Trump, and the use of force by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
On March 7, 2026, Jayapal posted about U.S. military expenditures related to Iran: “WOW. The money we’re spending for war with Iran could help every family who needs health care and food assistance. While working people suffer, we’re spending BILLIONS on another forever war.” She criticized what she described as a misallocation of resources at a time when many Americans face economic hardship.
Later that day, Jayapal commented on statements made by former President Trump concerning immigration enforcement: “Trump said he would be going after the ‘worst of the worst’ in immigration enforcement. We know that is not true. All of this as they continue their Epstein cover-up, protecting predators.”
On March 8, Jayapal addressed actions by DHS during protests: “DHS is using violent and unnecessary force against people across this country who are exercising their First Amendment rights.”
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since 2017 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She succeeded Jim McDermott in her current role and resides in Seattle. Born in Chennai in 1965, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
