U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, recently used her social media platform to address a range of policy issues, including fossil fuel subsidies, the release of the Epstein Files, and Medicare coverage for seniors.

On September 11, 2025, Jayapal criticized federal support for the fossil fuel industry. She wrote: “NEW REPORT: Each year, as working families struggle, the federal gov’t subsidizes the fossil fuel industry to the tune of $35 BILLION. Ridiculous. We need to invest in our communities, not give handouts to the Big Oil Billionaires destroying our planet.”

The following day, on September 12, she commented on efforts to combat child trafficking and transparency regarding high-profile criminal cases: “Republicans claim to want to combat the trafficking of children. Yet they won’t agree to release the Epstein Files and prosecute all those involved. Make it make sense.”

Later that same day, Jayapal addressed healthcare access and insurance denials impacting seniors: “If your doctor says you need a procedure, you should have access to it. It’s that simple. Insurance claim denials lead to worse patient outcomes. This pilot program will hurt seniors in WA & beyond. I’ll continue fighting to protect Traditional Medicare.”

Jayapal has served in Congress since 2017 after replacing Jim McDermott and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and now residing in Seattle at age 57, she holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
