U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on September 30, 2025, addressing legislative activity in the House and criticizing former President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers.

In her first post at 17:14 UTC, Jayapal wrote: “Today on the House Floor: Democrats are ready to pass legislation to keep the government open and protect Americans’ health care. Republicans are nowhere to be found.”

Later that day at 18:06 UTC, she commented on actions by Trump regarding free speech and referenced a judicial opinion: “Trump has been targeting the First Amendment, going after students for as little as writing an op-ed. Everyone should read this illuminating opinion from a Republican-appointed judge”

At 18:22 UTC, Jayapal further criticized Trump and congressional Republicans over funding negotiations: “We simply cannot trust Trump and Republicans to stick to their word on funding agreements. Democrats have kept our promises. But Trump is clawing back funding that has already been appropriated. They have no intention to negotiate in good faith or follow the law.”

Pramila Jayapal has served in Congress since 2017 after replacing Jim McDermott as representative for Washington’s 7th district. She previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965, Jayapal currently resides in Seattle. She holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA, 1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
